The past year has seen new currents emerge in bass music. With familiar beats underneath otherworldly productions, Mount Kimbie are arguably responsible for the birth of the term “post-dubstep.” Glitchy, atmospheric producers such as James Blake have taken things down a notch, ending the bass wars with a period of blissed out silence.
London duo Mount Kimbie have sat at the centre of these developments. A string of EPs and 12 inches led up to their debut album 'Crooks And Lovers' last summer, which became a slow burning success.
Mixing post-rock atmospherics with post-garage beats, Mount Kimbie (Kai Campos , & Dom Maker) have won acceptance far beyond electronic circles.
